"FROM A SMALL SEED A MIGHTY TREE WILL GROW"

A Community-centered, locally owned and operated preschool in Tucson, Small Marvels began as a dream...

After over a decade of service to TUSD as an Arts-Integration Specialist for the Opening Minds through the Arts (OMA) Program, Melissa Callahan, the Owner and Director of Small Marvels dreamt of starting a preschool. She wanted to create a learning environment that fostered development through an integration of arts activities and that fully supported the physical, emotional, academic and social needs of early childhood. Proximity to the University of Arizona and downtown Tucson were also important. After months of renovations on an historic adobe bungalo, her vision was realized as a school that is welcoming and designed with a child’s experiences and perspectives in mind and feels bright, creative and secure. She created a curriculum rich in art and music activities that includes a wide range of “hands-on and minds-on” learning stations balanced with free play, multi-age groupings, and STEM and visual art lessons taught by experts in the field. The bulding also has a fully-licensed commercial kitchen where fresh, wholesome and well-balanced meals are made daily.
